21st Century Learning - DSBN English

We're sitting here at the DRRC with Will Richardson learning more about 21st Century learners. I know that we're exciting about the possibilities of this transition but also a little overwhelmed with the learning curve. I will be seeking your requests for a series of workshops to help up along the way.

  1. I think that we need to learn how to teach our students to use all the things we've been discussing effectively!
Unfortunately, we're still stopping cell phones, ipods, facebook, blogs....

  2. Although the storm put a damper on this day, the potential classroom activities we have learned about brightened our day. I'm very excited to begin adding links to my blog!

  3. Lots of info to process, but very useful! maybe we can actually keep up (somewhat) with our students. BTW, lunch was excellent and Will gave us tons of interesting info. Thanks!

  4. How many ideas???!!! This was great! Thanks Cheryl. I'm clearly guilty of not putting myself out there although I teach connecitivism to my kids. I'm off and running again. Let's stay connected.

  6. Sooo many ideas, so little time. Just wondering what everyone is doing or planning to do with their departments and classes. We are all at different stages, but it would be interesting and informative to know what different teachers and departments are planning on doing next. I've been doing wikis, blogs, and websites with my classes and departments, but Will just gave me so many new ideas. There are so many interesting things that I can't wait to implement.

  7. Will provided us with so many things to consider. For me, I am quite guilty of protecting my privacy. Although I have posted many times on numerous blogs, I have always used a pen name. I can't say that I've posted photos for people that may not know me. I think besides all the possibilities for a classroom, the best part of what I take away from Will is the need to be more transparent with what I do. I don't believe that we avoided real names or photos to be secretive or unprofessional but to follow some perceived (real or imagined)guidelines. (I'm thinking of the blue pages here). I think we were all blown away, and somewhat liberated at the possibilities. I am looking forward to working with people who would like to start moving forward together.

  8. I agree. The whole notion of becoming transparent is something that many of us are afraid of, but I really get what Will said about the fact that teachers need to be learners first. We can't teach our students how to be transparent the "right way" if we haven't "walked the talk". Imagine trying to teach our students how to write an essay if we never had to write one. It is a whole new set of skills.
